Filmspotting — Social Media Assistant (Part‑Time, Hourly)
About Filmspotting
Filmspotting is a long‑running, independent podcast known for thoughtful criticism and an engaged community of film fans. In addition to weekly audio and video episodes, Filmspotting produces live events and maintains a membership program called the Filmspotting Family.
We’re looking for a part‑time Social Media Assistant to help execute and evolve our social presence across platforms under clear editorial direction and with room to contribute ideas.
The Role (High‑Level)
This role is best understood as social publishing + thoughtful contribution, not “run our socials however you want” and not “just schedule posts.”
You will:
Handle the day‑to‑day publishing of Filmspotting content
Work within a clearly defined playbook and approval process
Propose ideas, formats, and improvements – without being expected to reinvent the brand
Help Filmspotting show up more consistently, intelligently, and engagingly on social platforms
Core Responsibilities
Publishing & Execution
Draft and publish social posts tied to:
Weekly episodes
SVU and standalone content
Select archive episodes
Filmspotting Family membership
Events
Adapt content appropriately across platforms, including:
Instagram (Reels, Feed, Stories)
YouTube (full videos, clips, Shorts)
Facebook
X, used selectively
Video & Engagement Content
Identify strong moments from Filmspotting video recordings for social clips
Propose clips that function as:
Film conversation
Critical perspective
Engagement starters (not just promotion)
Help ensure social video feels intentional, not extractive or click‑driven
Collaboration & Approval
Draft posts for review and approval
Incorporate feedback quickly and accurately
Help build systems that reduce friction over time without lowering standards
Idea Contribution
Propose:
Platform‑appropriate ways to frame content
Experimentation (especially in Instagram Stories and Reels)
Improvements to workflow or cadence
Monitor emerging formats or conversations and flag relevant opportunities
What We’re Looking For
You’re likely a strong fit if you:
Have some experience publishing social content for a media brand, podcast, or cultural organization
Understand that taste and judgment matter as much as creativity
Are comfortable working within constraints — and contributing ideas within them
Can articulate and defend strategic choices across platforms and formats
Care about film, criticism, and cultural conversation
Bonus (not required):
Experience with podcast or video brands
Familiarity with long‑running or legacy media brands
Comfort pulling and proposing video clips
Familiarity with social analytics and reporting, with the ability to surface patterns or benchmarks that help guide editorial and publishing decisions
Workflow & Expectations
Part‑time, hourly role (expected range: ~4–8 hours/week, with flexibility)
Asynchronous workflow
Iteration and feedback are expected and normal
We value:
Thoughtfulness over speed
Alignment over novelty
Reliability over flash

This is not spec work and is not intended to take more than ~60–90 minutes.
