I've wanted to see Hunchback for the longest time but haven't got around to it.

Pretty sure its on youtube I watched it recently on there.

I found the film to be pretty average. Its probably the beginning of the Disney downfall although Hercules and Mulan are still very good.

Hercules is fun, but I can't get past the racial insensitivity and stereotypes in Mulan (same for Pocahontas).

Well, movies aren't history dude, so historical inaccuracy never bothers me.

I know, but in the sake of logic: John Smith was a hunky blonde guy, he was a rather portly fellow with a long, scraggly beard. Pocahontas was 12. Magical leaves to bridge language barriers. Rocky cliffs that are hundreds of feet high and moose are not in coastal Virginia. Ratcliff has no idea how to mine for gold in the film. The list goes on. I also have plenty of problems with the film in general. From the exceedingly dull leads to the excess of sidekicks, from the poorly written songs to the constant modeling poses on cliffs and waterfalls that Pocahontas has to make. I just really don't like this film.

I'm with Bill here. Pocahontas is not exactly my favorite Disney but I do really enjoy it. It isn't a historical document, it is simply a story about the importance of respecting nature, of the difficulty overcoming man's natural inclination for conflict and greed, using the clash of cultures story of Jamestown as an example. I actually think it is a story that Miyazaki could appreciate (many of the themes mirror those in Nausicaa, which does them much much better). I think the songs are really strong here Just Around The Riverbend, Colors of the Wind, Mine Mine Mine are all quite good.

Out There from Hunchback is still my favorite Disney song ever though.

Hercules is, without a doubt, the best film Disney Animation Studios has ever made, and it's not even close. It features the perfect blend of timeless comedy and topical jokes that work for audiences of any age, a time tested story, a wonderfully imaginative world design that puts anything Miyazaki or Pixar has created to shame, the best voice acting this side of Metal Gear Solid, and maintains as much reverence for the source material as can be reasonably expected considering the expectations people bring in to them when concerning Disney films.

Hercules (1997)

Usually even the most average of Disney animated features give me plenty to be happy about. It’s been a long time since I watched a Disney animated feature that gave me so little to say in the positive realm. The last Disney film that didn’t impress me much was I believe 1948′s Melody Time. I’m sad to report that the streak of quality Disney films ends with 1997′s Hercules, provided of course that my faulty memory isn’t forgetting another subpar film in the mix.
