Oh, those coastal hills are quite gorgeous... but my heart will always belong to those dry and treeless foothills on the other side of the valley. My house was right at the bottom of them. Most of my childhood dreams involved running away into those hills, living in an oak tree, and befriending a cougar and perhaps a red tailed hawk... I think I just read My Side of the Mountain and Hatchet one too many times. Heh.

Yep. My profile says Silicon Valley, but I live up on top of the coastal hills on the penisula, next to an open space preserve and with a view of the Bay. On the downside, if you need to run to the grocery store, it's a 45 minute round trip.
Hmm, one of my best friends lives in Portola Valley - you close to that?

Hey, my name is Brody. I'm a 14 year old movie geek, and I mean business. My top 3 movies are Eternal Sunshine, Raging Bull, and Dog Day Afternoon. I discovered Filmspotting when I was surfing the Wikipedia page for Snakes on a Plane, and found a link to it. I downloaded some episodes, and was instantly hooked. Adam and Sam have read two of my emails, including one on the last show, in response to the top 5 Journalism movies, and I hope to hold the honor of being their youngest fan, but I did start listening when I was 13, so what do I know?

You mean business? Does that mean you're going to take us all out if we cross a line?

My name is Matty Ballgame. I'm an actor, teacher, and socialist in New York City, New York. I attended Kenyon College with a one Sam (No Van) Hallgren and lived with said rascal in Chicago for three years during which time we attended the same film school, 1910 W Ainslie. Namely, we were so poor, our only entertainment consisted of a shared Netflix account and the hundreds upon hundreds of movies it delivered to our door and then going out to bars and talking about them. Eventually I returned to school, graduating with a Master's in Fine Arts from Brown University in Providence, Rhode Island last May. I live above a terrific Greek diner in Astoria, New York, with no cats, a 1983 Bang & Olufsen turntable and receiver, and a bed from IKEA. I have a penchant for baseball, coffee and the morning paper, raw oysters, and girl-next-door women.

I thought matty was the one actor who wasn't a cliche ... who wouldn't use "in the know" nicknames for other famous actors (sam jackson?) Well, I was wrong. He's become the most grating element on the show, completely self-absorbed and a detractor to my listening enjoyment. make Matty go away.

Awwwww. So fresh-faced and dimpled. Aren't you just too precious?
Did you know that you were a character in a little-known, hastily-written, and ultimately bad piece of fan fiction? Now you do.

Hey there peoples!
Yes, I'm new and fresh here, and read a nice little suggestion about this thread, so here I am for my first post at the Filmspotting boards!
I only found this podcast a few weeks back, and am VERY disappointed I didn't know about this a long time ago. I've been into movies my whole life, and love chewing the fat with friends and loved ones about the latest obsession in cinema land. I'm hardly what you'd call a "film buff" but certainly a fan.
I live here in Melbourne, Australia, with my lovely girlfriend and her two neurotic cats. Today was cold, but sunny, there's snow up on the hills, but here I sit... waiting to strap on the skis!
By day I'm a tradesperson, painting anything that doesn't move, but specialising in Church restoration and conservation of painted finishes. As I'm sure you'll readily imagine, it's utterly compelling, and is so much of a good conversation piece, that I'll spare any audience the pain, and prefer to critique a classic film instead! :p
I guess that'll do for my initial post here, so I'll shoot off and have a look around and see what the lay of the land is like here.
Cheers!

welcome to the madness! I don't know about your work not being compelling, there was a time I was really interested in art restoration... but I got distracted and before I knew it I was doing something else. Oh well!
So on to the questions...
What is your favorite classic film to criticize? What is your favorite type of slope to ski? (or are you one of those crazies who likes that cross country thing?) Why is the sky blue?

Hmmm, the questions! Fav "classic" film would have to be Blade Runner. Yes, I'm sure it's been done a million times before, but hell, I'm a sci-fi guy, and it's the pinnacle of the genre for me. I was a terrible student at school, and loathed many of the assignments given, but I'm sure I'd have shocked my teachers if they knew how deeply and thoroughly I studied this film! Only a few years later, Blade Runner was being used as part of the curriculum! What a shame!! However... love it, flaws and all! Favourite slope would have to be a carving up a nicely groomed, but freshly snowed on, expert LONG run... unfortunately, there are only about two of those in this entire country, so I'll stick with slushing through the soup wherever I can find it! I spent some time in Canada, and have been spoiled from it ever since! Sky blue?? Here in Aus, it's more of a mauve/black colour. The hole in the ozone layer allows the clouds to escape, and they take a lot of the blues with them. Or... I could give you some rubbish dialogue about light refraction and moisture particles, but it's the escaping clouds I tells you! :p One last thing: If this is a "get to know you" thread, I cannot in all good conscience not speak out about my *other* favourite film to critique.... Drum roll.... Starship Troopers!!! Yep, I'm absolutely serious. I LOVE this film in more ways that I truly know! I wont go into it now, but I think one of the main things I enjoy, is trying to convince people that they missed the point of it all! It makes peoples most hated films often enough, so its a good one to fire people up on. It's a shame the wider cinema going audience doesn't seem to have a collective sense of irony. If they did... this would be one of the best of its kind. Doogie Howser as a Nazi! So much to say!! But that'll do me for now!

I think there may be more closet enjoyment out there for starship troopers than you imagine... i have problems with bugs... but the underlying statements were fun and the camp was fantastic over the top. (if it weren't for the bugs!!!) --- you should check out the movies you loved that others hated thread over in the top 5 thread

Hey, Lise. I think you've become the official greeter in this thread.
How do you like the job so far? One time my stepmom made me the greeter for a party. I stood by the door and took peoples purses and hats. I actually liked it because I'm usually so awkward at parties.
I'm not sure we have a place for hats and wine bags though.
Spectre, you need to get in touch with Bucho. He's around here somewhere. He brawny and does things with saws. He builds things I think. I think he's in New Zealand though. Anyway, from here it looks like you could just walk over there and have some tea with him. Well, with him it would probably be more like a beer or freshly ripped-off goat-head, but whatever.
Welcome anyway. Wipe your feet before you come in.

i'm fine with official greeter... it is like when you throw a party and someone has to make sure that the drinks stay stocked and no one is sitting in a corner... oh and of course making sure no one gets nekid and runs around with a lamp shade on their head.
