One last thing:  If this is a "get to know you" thread, I cannot in all good conscience not speak out about my *other* favourite film to critique....  Drum roll....  Starship Troopers!!!  Yep, I'm absolutely serious.  I LOVE this film in more ways that I truly know!  I wont go into it now, but I think one of the main things I enjoy, is trying to convince people that they missed the point of it all!  It makes peoples most hated films often enough, so its a good one to fire people up on.  It's a shame the wider cinema going audience doesn't seem to have a collective sense of irony.  If they did...  this would be one of the best of its kind.  Doogie Howser as a Nazi!  So much to say!! Smiley

But that'll do me for now!

I apologize for being late to the party here, but, if you want to talk Starship Troopers, let me know.  I'm always down for discussing the most awesomest movie ever. Smiley

So my names Nate King. I've been listening to the podcast for a good year now and I'm obviously a fan. I like alot of stuff though, so who knows how this ranks.

I was an Architecture major in Boston - took a year off and attended Mass Art, now who knows what I'll do next. Let's hope it's something good. Currently I work at a liquore store and hate my job. If you can offer me another reason to quit (there's already a plethora) I'll go do it right now and you'll be my hero for a good couple of years.

I'm a sucker for Superman and I'm a softy when it comes to good will towards men. Been a fan of film and self proclaimed film historian for quite a few years now. I'm here to learn anything I can.

Oh... and I love snowboarding, golf, reading, baseball, drawing, running, history, and Mike Rowe. I also do impressionist paintings of my favorite film scenes. I know, I know... pretty awesome right? Plus I'm German. Now that you have my life story feel free to chat anytime. Well... that about does 'er.

Every person I've met that worked in a liquor store experienced a gun-related crime. Go work somewhere else with a cash register.

Oh, and welcome!

There ya go. Took less than 5 minutes for me to find another reason. You might just be my new hero.

Hey Nate.  Welcome.  I'm not going to say you made a mistake getting out of architecture.  I'm also not going to say you made the right decision.  There are some people that are meant for it; they have architecture in their blood.  There are some people that aren't.  While I can do a pretty good job at it, I don't think it's my calling.  Though I'm struggling with that question and maybe will be for the rest of my working life.  Dunno.

Wilkommen, Nate!

You have a Road to Perdition avatar, I likes you already. As far as the liquor store job, they probably don't offer an employee discount either- so quit the hell out of that place.

Thanks for the welcome guys.

Road to Perdition is one of my favorite films of the decade... may be one of my favorite films all in all. Thanks for the message Alex, I appreciate the info.

I think it's a wonderfully achieved film. I love Mendes' work and Tom Hanks and Paul Newman are fantastic in it. Not to mention that it's certainly in my top five for well-shot movies- the cinematography is just stunning.

Most definately. I'm a huge fan of all the main players. It was my first introduction to Daniel Craig as well... wonderful villian. I love the score too, bought it in fact. Between the Shawshank Redemption and Road to Perdition I can't get enough of Thomas Newman.

I went through a big Thomas Newman phase after American Beauty, which I think is one of the best applications of his often percussion-heavy sound. His work for Finding Nemo was also amazing and, in my opinion, one of the biggest reasons that movie works so well.

Hola,
I want to introduce myself to the boards.

My name is Aaron McAbee and I have been born and raised in Seattle WA.  I am 37 years old and I currently working in childcare with a mixed group of Toddlers and Pre-Schoolers.
I have horrible spelling and grammar so please try to be nice to me in responding to my post.

I love a good zombie film, along with Japanese trash from the 70's (Lone Wolf and Cub, Female Scorpion).

I am a vegitarian/vegan, left handed and never have owned a car.  My right eye is domminate, I have in my life broked both arms (not at the same time) had my leg fall into the spokes of a three wheel bike (don't ask) and broke my collar bone just recently (which provided me with lots of time to watch films while under painpills).

Overall I give people the benifit of the doubt.  I make eye contact with every car driver before I procede and love to bring in the ocassional bag of coffee for people at work. I would not say I gush human kindness, but I am really not the person to ask.

I love Austin Tx and have been there many times to visit and to attended films through The mighty Alamo Drafthouse.  I've attended 4 24 hour film festivals (Butt-Numb-a-thon's they call them) watched films drive in style at a old insane assylum, watched Once upon a time in the West in Monument Valley and went to a week long film festival of sci-fi/horror films at Fantastic Fest.  No one comes close to the joy that the alamo drafthouse has given me when it comes to film presentations.

I share the same birthday as Rutger Hauer and Sonny Chiba and love rice crispie treats (which I make now with a rice marshmellow substitute to avoid animal product).

I am torn between Blue Ray and HD-DVD but know that once the price of the disc themselves lower down then I will side blue ray.

I am bald but miss coloring my hair a great deal.  I always wanted hair the same color as Lola's.

I have a huge collection of films and have just recently given up on collecting games, although I still play the ocassional game on my 360.

Nice to meet everyone Grin
