This is a film that was very well-received in my part of the world (Ireland) and I hope you all get a chance to see it.
Directed by Shane Meadows and starring the wonderful Paddy Considine it tells the story of an ex-soldiers return to his childhood village to seek revenge on the thugs who abused his younger brother.
Here's the link for the trailer.

Hopefully Adam and Sam can review this one.

I saw it quite some time ago. I couldn't agree more though. It really is an excelent film. I actually e-mailed Adam and Sam about it, but we'll see. They don't have time to review everything I guess...

This movie came out in the UK a year or two ago and is by far the best example of Shane's work. Once Upon a Time in the Midlands was worse than terrible, but Dead Man's Shoes is excellent.

If you can find them, some of Shane's early short films are also excellent.

What can I say about this film.  This came nowhere near North Carolina.  It should have, and everyone should have gone.  I wish our local cinema society would have brought this in.  This film may be a masterpiece, a blunt and chilling one, but I can't remember a film that was this brutal while being so calculating.  The film is a slow burn, not boring, it just draws on your nerves while waiting.

The direction is remarkable, the camera work excellent, and the performances awesome.  Waste no time renting this.  It came out 2 weeks ago here in the States.  And oddly enough Walmart has been carrying it.

To the British/Scotts/Irish among us, was this popular in the UK?  I can't believe this flew so far under the radar here.  I mean, I guess I can, but I would have thought someone I know might have seen it.

Toby Kebbell really steals the movie.  He is sweet and simple and just makes you weep over his circumstance.  His performance makes the movie work.  At first I thought this was just going to escalate and be a bloody B movie, instead with Kebbell's nuanced acting I burn and really get behind the motivation of the film

Enough gushing.  Go see this.

Grade:  A- (But I reserve the right to upgrade this to an A)

Great film by Brittish director Shane Meadows (This Is England)

In my Opinion better than This Is England; one of the best films i have ever seen!

Not sure if this has been mentioned here before or if it is even well known within critics in the US, but i strongly recommend to everybody.

This always comes up as a Netflix recommendation for me, but your word is much more influential. It's in my queue.

It's incredible, and was among my favorite films of that year.  Toby Kebbel, who's turn as Rob Gretton in Control was outstanding, first came onto my radar screen through this film.  The scene between him and Considine in the field is absolutely stunning.  Brought tears to my eyes.
