The Departed Is it Leo's Baby?
« on: February 17, 2007, 12:14:37 AM »
I have two friends that are dead certain that the baby is Leo's.

I disagree I guess just because I think that that is too unoriginal.  Yes I realize the movie the movie isn't the most original ever but does the baby always have to be the "other guy's".   Is there anyway to actually resolve this seeing as how the commentary track is non-existent.

Any actual way to resolve it? Probably not. But the answer is probably yes, it is Leo's.

Plus, it makes sense in a roundabout way if you've seen Infernal Affairs.

Don't they make a big deal about Matt Damon's character not being able to "perform"? That seems like the clue that the baby is Leo's.

That too.

Though... of course they must have had sex at some point. Because logic dictates it, and he would have known it wasn't his otherwise.

He doesn't seem that surprised so they must have had sex, but those scenes where he can't perform denote a general lack of masculinity, which in The Departed world, is pretty significant.  It would make sense that Leo is able to perform here, where Matt cannot.

I thought it was pretty telling when after she receives the tape in the mail and listens to it, she exclaims,"And, I thought I was the liar here!" before storming out of the room.
Plus, the moment in the hallway when Leo gives her the information regarding his true identity.  She wants to tell him something but he tells her to wait.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure it's Leo's too.

Both great points, yep.

I always thought it was Leo's. I just figured it was understood because of Damon's performance problems.

In a way - I like how they left it unresovled. Especially since most everything else in the film was resolved so...forcefully.
