FS #195: Barry Levinson / Marina Zenovich / Top 5 2008 Sundance Entries

January 25: Adam and Matty return from Sundance without any good Paris Hilton stories, but with a lot of great things to say about their Top 5 Sundance Film Festival Entries. Plus, Adam sits down with director Marina Zenovich, whose documentary on the circumstances surrounding Roman Polanski's trial and exile from the United States in the late '70s -- "Roman Polanski: Wanted and Desired" -- premiered at Sundance. Adam also caught up with director Barry Levinson to discuss his new send-up of Hollywood -- "What Just Happened?" -- starring Robert De Niro, Catherine Keener and Bruce Willis.

Also on the show: Massacre Theatre, Listener Feedback, reflections on the passing of Heath Ledger, and a look at the 2008 Oscar Nominations announced earlier this week.

Music by Utah Carol from the album "Comfort for the Traveler."

Filmspotting is presented by Spout, a gathering place for people who love movies. In January, spout.com will present BUTTERKNIFE, a new generation detective series made by a new generation of filmmakers. Find out more at butterknife.spout.com.

NOTES/CORRECTIONS
- Yes, Matty mistakenly said "steadicam" when discussing "Cloverfield."

- See the trailer for Michael Stahl-David's Slamdance entry, "The Project": http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=krk6US6qkp0

- Brett Haugen from Minneapolis was the listener who couldn't believe I (Adam) didn't mention Anton Chigurh on my Top 5 Villains of 2007 list. It was the 'Anton Chigurh Memorial List.'

- The Feedback segment on "There Will Be Blood" does not contain any spoilers, but the discussion is specific enough that anyone not wanting to have their reaction 'tainted' might consider fast forwarding their iPods.

The correct title for the Hunter S. Thompson doc playing at Sundance is "Gonzo: The Life and Work of Dr. Hunter S. Thompson."

FS #192: The Orphanage / Walk Hard / 2007 Top 5 Blowout

January 4: This week, Adam and Matty top off 2007 with a potpourri of Top 5 lists, including Worst Movies of the Year, Most Annoying Performances, Best/Worst Date Movies and more. Also, Matty admits to being a bit of a fraidy-cat when it comes to scary movies, so Adam holds his hand during their discussion of the latest Spanish ghost thriller, "The Orphanage," directed by first-timer J.A. Bayona and 'presented by' Guillermo del Toro.

Plus, the guys find time to "Walk Hard" with John C. Reilly for a review of Jake Kasdan and Judd Apatow's music biopic spoof.

Music by Chuck Prophet from the new album Soap and Water.

CORRECTIONS/NOTES
- Watch an interview with "Orphanage" screenwriter Sergio G. Sanchez and director J.A. Bayona here.

- Matty actually meant he saw a trailer for "Meet the Spartans," not "Epic Movie."

- See Filmspotting friend Michael Phillips deliver his worst movies of 2007 here.

- Click here for details about the Filmspotting-Sundance Meetup.

- Just for the record, Matty was embellishing when he suggested we considered a Top 5 Steamiest Scenes of 2007 list. It was not a potential topic we discussed.
