FS #268: Julie and Julia / Humpday / Top 5 Food Movies

August 7: Hellooooooooo my lovelies! This week we’re going to be making Filmspotting a la Awesome. To begin, please find yourself a suitable receptacle, an iPod or a radio station; then find yourself two charming, pedantic cinephiles: a nice ripe Kempenaar will do nicely (you’ll know it’s in season if it's a little smushy in the middle) and then add a healthy dollop of some beautiful Matty Ballgame for some added spice. Mix the two liberally together for about an hour, stirring all the while. Once congealed, add in a healthy discussion of "Julie and Julia," the new comedy from Nora Ephron starring Meryl Streep as Julia Child and Amy Adams in the role of another young actress once again out-acted by the great Meryl Streep. Next, gently massage in some poignant Listener Feedback for stability before topping the entire concoction off with a demiglase of the Top 5 Food Movies. Let sit for an hour until the Ballgame has fully pickled and then, “Bon Appetit!”

Also on the show: Adam's Articulate Analysis of Lynn Shelton's new film "Humpday," Massacre Theatre -- presented by In Review Online -- and music by The Sea and Cake.

Listening now, can't wait to see Hump Day. The previous Duplass films are hilarious. The Puffy Chair is really great and I saw the latest one at our film festival... pure barebones genius of filmmaking.

Yall need to slow down on the freak Japanese, etc. foreign film indulgences and start going to some film festivals... the local and regional films popping up are brilliant and desperately need more exposure.

And watch That Evening Sun already!

By the way are you guys talking about the "Break UP" like the one with Vince Vaughn???

You guys liked that film??? It was sooo awful, I think you might just have a soft spot for it because of Chicago. But a very bad film.

Literally the only good part was they went to an OLD 97's show (one of the greatest bands ever).

need to donate in the hopes of winning for After Hours and suggesting Tampopo. Not a great movie, but fun concept and a illustration of a total love affair with food.

I just stumbled upon filmspotting and had to let you know about my favorite food movie: 301/302 by Cheol-su Park. It's a Korean psychological thriller about two women who are drawn together by their different neurosis (neuroses?) surrounding food. To say any more would spoil it, but you MUST see this film!
