FS #239: Top 10 Films of 2008 / Frost/Nixon / Gran Torino / Seven Pounds

Plus, Michael Phillips from the Chicago Tribune and the AV Club's Scott Tobias stop by to offer up a soulful duet version of The Christmas Song and find time to help Adam and Matty name their Top 10 Films of 2008. So warm your chestnuts by our open fire and enjoy a very special Rankin/Bass edition of Massacre Theatre, and watch as SeƱor Wences and Topo Gigo drop in to help little Matty discover the true meaning of Christmas and the importance of daily showering.

NOTES/CORRECTIONS
- Continuing my (Adam's) "Few Good Men"-"Frost/Nixon" comparison... yes, Kevin Bacon basically plays the same role in both.
- Steve Prokopy aka Capone will be back on the show in a few weeks to countdown the Top 5 Performances of 2008.
- No, I 'didn't get' "Alexandra" -- but we also weren't reviewing it and weren't going to take the time during our #10-6 to discuss it in any detail.
- Was "American Teen" left off my honorable mentions? Definitely should have been said.
- Check back for Matty's Top 25 Films of 2008 as promised.

I am unable to access the show. Problem with connecting to the server or something. Top ten films of the year is one of my most anticipated lists on Filmspotting, I'm dyin' here.
There was some glitch earlier, but if you click any of the links above the show is definitely working. People are submitting Massacre Theatre entries and it downloaded for me in iTunes.
It's working now...thanks Adam.
I can't believe you STILL haven't seen "Flight Of The Red Balloon"... you disappoint me Adam, you disappoint me so very much. Ha, I love how you were like, "some listeners have been urging me to check it out", did you mean just me or have their actually been others? Anyway, SEE it, then email me and tell me what you think... y'know, if you're ever not insanely busy.
Also, check out our site, ooooh, a week from this Tuesday, and we'll have our own picks for the best films of the year up-- which 'Flight' will certainly be included in.
Liked your list quite a bit by the way, and think going with "Man On Wire" at number one is pretty unique, and it's inarguable that it's certainly a very good film-- 100% of critics on RT don't lie.
Cya guys, probably at Toronto again next year!

I thought Cotton Hill got his shins blown off, not his knees.
Also, I was thoroughly disappointed in Zack and Miri Make a Porno. I love Kevin Smith's movies, but Zack and Miri was just terrible. The jokes were bad, as was the plot. I know you discussed the structure of the film and how great it was, but, to me, the structure was pretty darn straightforward, with no surprises whatsoever. It's a movie with trumped up minor conflicts that amount to nothing by the end of the movie. Given the current poll question, this is without a doubt my most disappointing movie of the year.
Didn't Matt say he was going to post his top 25?
