Filmspotting Extra: Playtime

Feb. 16: Earlier today, Adam and Sam were given a few minutes on Chicago Public Radio's weekday magazine show "848" to determine if Jacques Tati's 1967 film "Playtime" is deserving of its 'masterpiece' label. A restored 70mm print of "Playtime" is showing this weekend at Chicago's Music Box Theatre.

Hi Adam and Sam. Two years ago I went to Vancouver’s Pacific Cinematheque to watch Tati’s Playtime. It is one of the greatest movie-going experiences of my life. I tried to buy the Criterion DVD but it was not available until last year. I bought it right away, took it home and showed the movie to my wife on our 21’’ screen.
I had talked to her endlessly about this movie and... There we were, watching this film that didn’t look as great as I thought it did.
So, I agree with you guys. This movie must be seen on the big screen. The good thing about the DVD is all the extra goodies.
Thanks for commenting on Tati’s work.
