Cinecast #87: V for Vendetta

Sometimes you can have all the right ingredients -- venerable source material (Alan Moore and David Lloyd's graphic novel indictment of Thatcherism); pedigreed action movie team (screenwriters the Wachowski brothers and director James McTiegue are all "Matrix" trilogy veterans); and solid casting (Natalie Portman, Hugo Weaving and Stephen Rea) -- but still come up short. An interesting premise and a bold, if unsuccessful, attempt at relevancy can't make up for "V for Vendetta's" deficiencies ... which are catalogued, at length, by your diligent hosts.
Also on the show: Listener Feedback, a discussion of Premiere's 100 Greatest Performances, Massacre Theatre, and a preview of this week's Top 5 ... Dystopias.

Hey, you guys read my review. Thanks! I can't say I blame you for not discussing the subtitles, I was just expecting there to be a small mention of them and how they melded with the scene. After hearing that more than 40 minutes were cut out, I take back all the things I said about the confusing story and place the blame squarely on Fox Searchlight for editing it down that much (if that is in fact what happend). Thanks again for reading my email and keep up the great work as always.

The logo for Snakes on a Plane has exploded on to the internet. Being a fan of all things cheese, I couldn't help but pass this along to you guys.

According to Aintitcoolnews Snakes On a Plane is getting so much hype the reshooting parts to change it from a PG to an R. It will be very hard for this movie not to rocket to the top of the so-bad-its-good list.
