Cinecast #76: Most Anticipated Movies of 2006

Overlooked Auteurs #2/Most Anticipated Movies: After having their eyes opened to the visceral charms of Samuel Fuller last week with "Shock Corridor," Adam and Sam continue their Overlooked Auteurs Marathon with Fuller's 1980 WWII epic The Big Red One. Recently reconstructed by film historian and critic Richard Schickel, Fuller's film is either a "complete masterpiece," or a skillfully made and unsentimental war movie that is slightly undercut by its episodic structure. One thing Adam and Sam completely agree on: Lee Marvin. Is. A total. Badass.

I am surprised that Apocalyto did not get mentioned in the anticipated movies. I guess becuase I am an archaeologist I am biased towards this film.
I am most looking forward to Michal Gondry's The Science of Sleep. It's supposed to similiar to Eternal Sunshine but a little more like a surreal screwball fantasy rather than an intricate, existential romantic drama.
Excluding all the movies that have already been mentioned in your lists (ALL of which I'm looking forward to too, especially A Scanner Darkly, Babel, The Departed, and Zodiac), here's my list of 2006:
- Deja Vu,
- Little Miss Sunshine,
- Marie Antoinette,
- The Painted Veil,
- Sin City 2,
- Inglorious Bastards,
- Grind,
- A Good Year,
- The Prestige,
- Flags of Our Fathers.
If you're unfamiliar with some of these, then I recommend checking them out on IMDB.
Come on, where are the props for "The Hills Have Eyes" remake?!?!?!? But seriously, lets all agree to not go.
There apparently a lack of knowledge here for the upcoming cinema masterpiece Snakes on the Plane starring Samuel L. Jackson. It's a perfectly self-describing movie, something which I feel has been has been sorely lacking in Hollywood lately.
I don't think there was even a script for this future surrealist wonder. The director just heard the concept of "Snakes on a Plane starring Samuel L. Jackson" and started filming. Sets, dialog, supporting actors, animal handlers, and narrative themes were added as necessary.
I've heard about the laughable buzz behind Snakes On A Plane, and apparently people would watch the movie just to hear him say, "SNAKES ON THE MUTHA-******* PLANE!!".
This movie is going to be the best thing anybody in the world has ever seen. Snakes on the mutha-******* plane, baby. Absolutely brilliant. Purely genious. And totally Sam L. Jackson.
Gotta love hollywood.
