Cinecast #75: The Three Burials of Melquiades Estrada

The Three Burials of Melquiades Estrada: When actors become directors, it's hard not to watch their films through the filter of their screen personas. As an actor, Tommy Lee Jones's depiction of hard-bitten, no-nonsense characters has almost reached the level of caricature (e.g. "Man Of The House"). Not unlike one of his characters, Jones's feature film directing debut -- The Three Burials Of Melquiades Estrada -- is tough and, at times, absurdly funny. But is it any good? Your Cinecast hosts split on the film and engage in a border war about whether the film was authentic and genuinely moving, or inauthentic and emotionally bullying ... whatever that means.
Also on the show, Listener Feedback, Massacre Theatre, and a preview of this week's Top 5 ... Most Anticipated Movies of 2006.
Music by Chuck Prophet ... Cinecast theme music by Age of the Rifle.

looks like that show left all of us speechless... emotionally bullying, uhu, soso (we i disagree with adam i at least know what he is talking about)... here i haven't got a clue really
Guys, I for one really like the music you play. It's nice to hear stuff you don't catch on the radio. I can understand the argument that it wouldn't be a bad thing to hear music from movies on a movie podcast. But I think it would be a waste of $500. Use that money to buy yourselves some popcorn. The podcast is great as is. Thanks for the hours of entertainment.
Just don't lose the theme song! I love that damn thing.
Hey guys,
I'm with Brett in that I think the $500 is a bit of a waste. The music you play already I think sets the mood as an independent show reviewing the smaller films out there. If I don't like the music, I simply fast forward to the next segment (BTW, thanks for posting the time cues with each episode). And shame on you Sam for forgetting to make the Hustle and Flow reference. Nothing cracks me up more then the image of Sam pulling a gun on one of Roger Ebert's possee (Roper perhaps?) and shooting his way out of the radio station. As always keep up the great work.
