Programming Notes

I know we promoted the Top 5 Performances of 2005 for this week, but Sam and I decided that we'd covered a lot of that ground already last week. Plus, the Oscars are coming up... So, we've decided to do our Top 5 Movies with Narrators, tying in with "The New World." Also, Thursday on Cinecast A/V we'll have some Overlooked DVD picks and hand out the 'Durdens', our awards for Badass of the Year.

The name of the award for the biggest badass of the year is Durden? As in Tyler Durden? But he was merely an extension of Edward Norton's psyche, he was defeated by the realization that he was merely a product of a man who felt emasculated in today's world. He was defeated by just a mere thought, I disagree, good sirs! The name for the awards should be, "The Alvy Singers".

I <3 Q'Orianka Kilcher.

I suspect that you both are going to have to make changes to your top 10 of 2005 after seeing "The New World".

I'd have to say there's a tie for me in my biggest badass of the year. The first one would have to be Djay, specifically the scene where he's trying to talk to Skinny Black and after being shrugged off turns around, lights a cig, and gets his A-game ready. If there was a better badass scene in 05 I didn't see it. The other one was Woo-jin Lee in Oldboy (I just realized I've referenced that movie in almost ever post, I'll be sure to lay off of it). There was never a moment in the movie where his character was not in control and if nothing else, he had one of the best hats.
