Cinecast #71: Brave New World

Sam and Adam say I'm way better than you in Cinecast #71, ha ha.

The New World: Lyrical, elliptical, discontinuous, oblique... Sam and Adam bust out the Art Film Dictionary for their discussion of Terrence Malick's latest "The New World." A love story at the bloody dawn of American colonization, Malick's first film since 1998's "The Thin Red Line" has all the ingredients of a grand historical romance. But as he has in each of the four films that comprise his filmography since 1973's "Badlands," Malick frustrates expectations and challenges his audience. Although Adam found his bearings quicker than Sam, both came to admire the film for its accumulative power. Particularly good: Q'Orianka Kilcher as Pocahontas, who, remarkably, was only 14 when filming began.

Also on the show, Listener Feedback, Massacre Theatre, and a preview of this week's Top 5 ... Movies with Narrators.

Music by Dan Bern courtesy of Messenger Records ... Cinecast theme music by Age of the Rifle.

Peerflix looks great, but is it US-only?
There is a book scheme running in the UK that works in a similar way, but is there anything similar for DVDs?

I always enjoyed seeing how much weight he had gained every time I saw him show up in a movie. While he never topped his Nice Guy Eddie role, he was a decent actor none-the-less. Sorry for no real comments on the show yet Adam and Sam, I'll listen to it tonight though.

thevoid99 I hope that wasn't meant sarcastically...also, I have to say I saw The New World again today...I don't know if it was the fact I saw it on a Friday night in a packed teenage theater with friends who hated it, but I was absolutely blown away this time. I think your review made me view it in a completely different light.
