Cinecast #49: Good Night, Better Luck Tomorrow
Good Night, and Good Luck: Perhaps a victim of unfairly heightened expectations, director George Clooney's new film about Edward R. Murrow's on-air battle with Senator Joseph McCarthy never quite reaches the level of excellence that it seems to promise. Clooney's ensemble is strong, with David Strathairn giving an intensely focused performance as Murrow. But the film is more history lesson than narrative. Sam didn't find the film as preachy as Adam did; but Adam did find "Good Night" more compelling overall. An admirable disappointment, "Good Night" should prove immensely popular with teachers of 20th century history.

I've yet to watch Good Night, And Good Luck., but you guys sure know how to blow bubbles. I was really, really anticipating this movie! I'll still go for it, but with lowered expectations. You can't blame me for feeling enthusiastic for such a daring movie in todays theatres.
You should definitely see it! And still be enthusiastic about it, I think anyway.
I've yet to watch All The President's Men (probably because I can't really find it anywhere), so 'Good Night, And Good Luck.' shall be a very new experience for me. I must say though, that you really based your review as a comparison to that film, alienating a lot of us that hadn't watched it. Still, I'm convinced to watch it now, so the hunt for the DVD shall being.
I'm not sure I agree, azmi, that we 'based' our review on All The President's Men. It's just what we used to kick off the discussion. Honestly, I didn't make a single comparison to All The President's Men until Sam mentioned it -- certainly not while I was watching the movie.
