Cinecast #44: My Darling Clementine/Top 5 Actors
In a feat of mathematics equalled only by whatever the hell Gwyneth Paltrow and Jake Gyllenhall were blathering about in "Proof," Adam and Sam manage to squeeze nearly 30 names into their list of Top 5 Actors. Did we miss any? I'm not sure it's possible.
Also on the show, the Western-a-Week Marathon continues with John Ford's gunfight at the OK Corral classic, "My Darling Clementine." Plus, our Overlooked DVD Picks of the Week and listeners share their Top 5 Actresses.

Adam, thank you for recommending Closer! I would even go as far as to say its nearly equal to Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf, easily one of my top 10 films of all time.

Hi Adam (sorry if these comments should be directed at Sam), I was surprised to hear you speak highly of Remains of the Day and Howard's End in relation to Anthony Hopkins. If I recall correctly, no "corset" dramas (especially the Merchant Ivory variety) made it into your best book adaptations list. I assumed you were averse to those kinds of films. What do you really think of them?
Thanks for a great show.
Alvin
Remains couldn't make my list because, tragically, I haven't read the book... I have read Howard's End, but I don't love the movie -- especially not as much as Remains.
I haven't put enough thought into a top 5 actors list for myself, but I know that if I did, one person that would be on it -- if not #1 -- is Nicolas Cage. I think he really livens up any role that he is in. He has such a manic presence at times and at others he can be very personable and touching.
Great show guys.
I don't think you should have to apologize for Russell Crowe. He's always been my example of an actor that becomes someone different when he takes on a role. Compared to, say, Tom Cruise who always plays himself with different clothes and different name, Crowe has always seemed like a character actor who happens to be lead.
