Cinecast #28: Bergman's Last Symphony
Calling Ingmar Bergman's latest film a "sequel" to 1974's "Scenes From A Marriage" is like calling the Sistine Chapel a sequel to the Pieta. In "Saraband," Johan and Marianne -- the unhappy couple from Bergman's landmark '70s film -- are reunited after 30 years apart. Your hosts disagree on how the two films match up -- Adam considers "Scenes" a masterpiece, which Bergman's latest cannot hope to equal; while Sam actually found more to like in "Saraband." But one thing is clear: at 87 years of age, Bergman is still a master of psychological storytelling.

why isn't it up on iTunes yet?
I wish I knew. It's not posting anywhere... yet our hosting provider and our feed provider both say everything is fine, and you can play the file fine when you click on it here. I'm really perplexed.
It's working now :)
Do you know, did you subscribe in iTunes to the show that was on the main page and in the top 100, or did you go in under advanced and manually add our feed?
Hey, Here's a movie for your top 5 about marriage.
Straw Dogs
jesse
you're not in the top 100 anymore, which is a shame!
Thanks! But don't sweat it too much... the top 100 (or so I've been told) is based on subscribers over the last 24 hours not overall subscribers. We somehow managed to stay in the top 20 for a month, and the top 100 for a while longer... so we're still pretty happy.
I am glad you guys did not go stereotypical with your marriage list and have "American Beauty" on it. "Kramer vs Kramer" is a good choice, but I feel you both missed one film about marriage: "Barefoot In The Park". None of your movies listed really delt with being newlyweds, and although this was based on ahit play, its an incredible film that actually is still a joy to watch today and explores, in a funny way, how two starry eyed lovers deal with post marriage ceremony life
i enjoy listening to your show, blah blah, all the standard opening lines, etc. et al.
i think a great movie about marriage/family is the royal tennenbaums. i hated the ice storm, and think that the tennenbaums would be a worthy replacement. on that same note, i also think royal would have been a noteworthy member of the antiheroes list a few weeks back. i really do enjoy the show, just thought i'd pipe in a comment.
