Cinecast #22: Willy Scissorhands
Tim Burton needed to satisfy not one but two groups of adoring fans with his version of Roald Dahl's "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory" -- those who love Dahl's book AND those who love the 1971 musical version starring Gene Wilder that's become a well-deserved cult classic. Unfortunately, it's possible that the only person Burton satisfied here is himself. Despite "Charlie's" strong first act, the familiar story starts to lose its magic once Burton introduces us to Johnny Depp's enigmatic (and ill-conceived) Wonka.
Also on the show, a review of the new comedy "Wedding Crashers," featuring Vince Vaughn and Owen Wilson as the titular aging hooligans. "Crashers" doesn't quite deliver as a buddy movie or entirely overcome a lazy screenplay that goes for jokes at the expense of any logic whatsoever, but there are more than enough big laughs to recommend it (thanks mainly to Vaughn's manic performance.) Most importantly, it's eminently quotable. Plus, Listener Feedback, Massacre Theatre and our Top 5 Movie Duos.

For some reason this show is showing up in your feed, or on the iTunes feed.
I assume you mean is "not" showing up? I'm not surprised. Considering it's taken a minimum of 2 days for "current" shows to appear in the past, I'd be content with a couple of hours at this point. I have been told this issue should be resolved on Apple's end, but we'll see, huh?
I hate iTunes sometimes...
Aadam, I wasn't really concerned with the iTunes part, as I've just "dragged" your reg feed into iTunes to bypass the non working ness. But the normal feed, which you have linked to from your site wasn't showing the new show. I see that is it is fixed now, but for about an hour+ it wasn't there.
Wow, sorry, didn't notice that... not that I could have sped up the process any. But yeah, I see it in Feedburner now. Thanks.
Keep up the great work, your show is the only podcast I actually count down the days until new shows. I subscribe to the feed via the iTunes link just to help your #'s out. I hope they iron out thier problems soon.
Massacre Theater has stumped me for the first time! :( I have a guess, but I'm so not sure.
The iTunes feed is still sans the newest episode. I'm using the feedburner feed right now but it'd be nice if iTunes would work, just so you guys could stay ranked. ;-)
I'd like to post a quick comment and correction to Adam's view of Vince Vaughn's character in the film "Made".
Adam mentioned during his review of "The Wedding Crashers" that sometimes Vaughn had "Made moments" and is so obnoxious that you just want him to shut up.
I think you missed just what Jon Favreau and Vaughn were trying to do there. I learned on the director's commentary on the DVD of that film, that an annoying character was exactly what the two were going for.
If I remember correctly, Favreau stated that they wanted the character to be just like Trent from "Swingers". However they wanted his BS to not work this time around. They wanted him to be the guy who thought he was like Trent and loved by everyone but really only made everyone hate him.
To John: I've been told but haven't confirmed that even if you subscribe with the FeedBurner feed, it will all count as a subscription for Cinecast and this help our ranking -- as long as you are subscribing through iTunes, obviously. Again, haven't confirmed that...
To Anonymous: There's no doubt that Vince's entire purpose in Made is to be ridiculously obnoxious. I think that's clear just from watching the movie, commentary or not. But my problem is that he is SO ANNOYING that just like all of the characters around him wanted him to shut up, I too wanted him to shut up. Just the sound of his voice became like torture. Maybe if he had shifted gears a bit and wasn't just non-stop obnoxious the whole time it would have been more effective for me. I still consider myself a Vaughn fan though going back to Swingers. And I just watched him in Clay Pigeons and really enjoyed watching him play against his now 'stock' role.
Hi Guys, I love the show... and am really looking forward to your review of Willy Wonka, a movie that I though was awesome BTW. I put a somewhat review of it on my blog.

Anyway i just wanted to let you know that itunes sucks and still does not have the latest show. #22 Im sure it is some shoddy coding on thier part. I know thier are other way of getting it I just like to rant about iTunes not working EVER.
Again thanks for the good work and keep it up!!
Thanks, larakin. We may have the iTunes problem figured out. I'm working on it now.
Wow I like the active response!! Can you share what the problem is? I am curious, being a software developer (with obvous typing problems) I would like to know what is going on. It is not just your show that seems to have trouble, pretty much all of the casts I subscribe to get pretty messed up like this.
Thanks
When I get a definite answer, I'll let you know. I've been told it might have something to do with the '&' sign in "Adam Kempenaar & Sam Hallgren" in our audio ID3 tags. I've uploaded a new file without the & and have removed it completely from our feed. We'll see...
